Our 3-Year-Old Dresses Up As Famous Strong Women, And She’s Seriously Cute

The project all started when Scout’s grandma, her Nonnie, was diagnosed with breast cancer. We were looking for a way to keep our minds busy during a really hard time.

When Nonnie’s hair started to fall out, Scout got very concerned and I wanted to put both of our minds at ease. I needed to teach her and remind myself that women are fighters! We chose famous & fierce women to teach her about the strength that women have.

We had put together a list of people to shoot and I taught Scout a little bit about each person. We then chose the photo we wanted to replicate together. We worked on the project for a little under a year – throughout the diagnosis, treatment, and mastectomy surgery.

Nonnie was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2016 and she had 6 rounds of intense chemo from June to September that year. After she had finally regained some strength, there was another bump in the road… a double mastectomy.

Scout was learning first hand just how amazing and strong women can be. So we just kept shooting. We planned that at the end of it all, we’d make a picture book for both Scout and Nonnie. We made sure to pick a few of Nonnie’s favorites as well, like Ellen. And Scout has a list of her Disney heroes we’re shooting as well!

The entire project was such a godsend for Scout and myself. And showing my mom the end result- priceless. Every single minute I spent planning, styling, shooting, and editing was 100% worth it.

This project has probably taught me just as much or more than it taught my daughter. I truly want Scout to be able to look back at this and know that women are just as strong as any man. And to be quite honest, my fingers are crossed that by the time she’s old enough to understand the strength she’s portraying- women won’t be seen as delicate and dainty anymore, anyway. And I hope that when Scout looks back on this, she is proud of who she is and who she will become.

Although Scout has emulated so many amazing people, I fiercely encourage her to become exactly the person she wants to be. No matter what, I think she’s amazing.

Oh and Nonnie? She is cancer free! So of course.. she had to get in on the photos, too! She is such an inspiration and we are so lucky to have her in our lives! You’re our hero!

Deployed Husband Joins Wife’s Maternity Shoot From Thousands Of Miles Away. The Emotional Photos Are Breathtaking.

As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Brandon Phillips has been
deployed overseas for months and missed nearly all of his wife
Veronica’s pregnancy, including watching her belly grow and
feeling the baby’s kicks grow stronger.

But even with thousands of miles separating them, Veronica
wasn’t about to let him miss out on her last set of
professional maternity photos.

“I had seen many photos where people were Photoshopped in, and
I have Photoshopped siblings together before to look like one
seamless photo,” said Miami-based photographer Jennifer McMahon
of Jennifer Ariel Photography, who conducted last month’s photo
shoot. “After playing around with several edits for a few days
and many hours of editing, I posted the one I thought told the
best story and would evoke emotion in all who saw it.”

A combination of two separate images, the photo shows Brandon–
dressed in military- issue camouflage against a desert
background– kneeling on one knee in front of Veronica, his hand
reaching out and seemingly touching her pregnant belly.

Veronica’s own hands are placed just above and below his, and
she gazes down at them with the hint of a smile playing at her
lips, her sheer pink maternity gown trailing against a grassy,
forested backdrop.

“I wanted to honor my husband, and even though we are a far
distance from each other, we are close in this picture,” said
Veronica, a 29-year-old social worker. “It symbolizes our love
and commitment from afar.”

The Homestead, Fla., couple is counting down to their son’s
June 10 due date, and have already chosen the name Landon.

Brandon left on his deployment soon after they found out the
baby’s sex and has no set return date; he’s missed out not only
on watching Landon push the boundaries of Veronica’s stomach,
but “I’m not going to be there when he’s born,” he said. “I’m
not going to be able to cut the cord. I’m not going to hear his
first scream.”

Still, he’s with Landon on Veronica in spirit, something this
photo perfectly captures.

The couple does plan to Skype while Veronica is in labor so he
can be part of it – and maybe McMahon can put her skills to
work again, Photoshopping Brandon into the delivery room as yet
another keepsake.

Here’s How An 11-Year-Old Girl Responded To Her Teacher’s Class-Wide Punishment

Meet Ava Morrison-Bell, the 11-year-old from the UK who has got some serious character – in a good way.

When asked at school what her teacher could do better, Ava courageously answered that collective punishment shouldn’t be used as it is not fair for the people who didn’t do anything. But that’s not all… She then backed up her statement with historical evidence, stating “under the 1949 Geneva Conventions it is a war crime”. Not too shabby for an 11-year-old, huh? Her dad tweeted a picture of Ava’s little note and it has gone viral since with over 380k likes and 116k retweets. Keep on scrolling to check it out!

27 Awkward Album Covers from the Soviet Union Era

like much on paper, but in reality, it is very much indeed.

Feeling constipated? Here are 8 natural remedies to keep the bowels moving

Constipation is an embarrassing yet highly preventable and
manageable condition, yet millions suffer in silence every day.
Constipation is defined as 3 or fewer bowel movements per week
and we all know how this can make our lives a misery.

Aside from resorting to laxatives and other harmful solutions,
there are many other options that you can try in the comfort of
your own home.

Before you run to the pharmacy, give these easy and cost
effective home remedies for constipation a try.

1) Good old Prunes and Prune Juice

This home remedy isn’t just for babies and the elderly. Prunes
are not only high in fiber, but also in a natural sugar called
sorbitol. After eating (or drinking) your prunes the fiber and
sorbitol move along in the digestive tract absorbing water as
they go. The end result is naturally soft stools. Start out
with a glass of prune juice or 2-3 prunes and give them a
chance to work before trying any more. Beware, though, too much
of the good stuff can also cause bloating, gas and diarrhea.

2) Get Oiled Up

Just as we use oil to lubricate engines or a creaky door,
certain healthy oils and fats are extremely effective in
ensuring that our digestive systems work as they should. Stick
to oils such as olive oil or coconut oil or make sure you are
eating enough nuts and avocado to ensure that your bowels keep
moving.

To help prevent constipation consume one tablespoon of olive
oil mixed with lemon juice (to help with the taste) every
morning on an empty stomach.

3) Coffee and Other Caffeinated Products

Most of us can’t function without our favorite cup of morning
magic- our coffee. Turns out or digestive systems also benefit
from a bit of a wake up from the caffeine in our daily coffee
as well as certain teas.

Caffeine actually works to stimulate our digestive systems and
ensures movement in our bowels. As an added bonus this study
reported coffee might even help to improve the health of our
gut bacteria.

Caffeine is also a diuretic though so too many cups can cause
dehydration as well as unwanted side effects such as anxiety
and insomnia.

Stick to one or two cups per day for the best results.

4) Staying well Hydrated

You may have heard that you should be drinking 8 glasses of
water a day to prevent dehydration. One of the main reasons for
this is to avoid constipation. Excess water is released through
our kidney’s every time we need to urinate but water is also
released through our stools every time we need to go. If we are
dehydrated water is absorbed from our stools in our colons and
the stool becomes harder and more difficult to pass. This is
commonly referred to as constipation.

One of the best ways to prevent constipation is to ensure that
you drink enough water on a daily basis, for your body weight
as well as the level of activity.

For an extra boost, it has been reported that carbonated or
sparkling water may be more effective at helping with
constipation.

5) A Cup of Herbal Dandelion Tea

Dandelions are not just a pretty looking weed, they are
actually quite useful. The leaves of the plant are known to
have compounds in them which act as a laxative.

Collect the leaves of the dandelion plant and allow them to
dry. Crush the leaves after drying. Use 1-2 teaspoons of the
dried dandelion leaves and add boiling water. Cover the
solution and allow it to steep for 5-10 minutes. For best
results drink the tea 2-3 times per day.

6) Make Sure you Move More

Sitting truly is the new smoking when it comes to unhealthy
habits. Not only do hours of sitting at your desk contribute to
various diseases of lifestyle like diabetes and heart disease
but the lack of movement can also be a risk factor for
constipation.

7) Increased your Intake of Probiotic Rich
Foods

When it comes to any and all matters of the digestive system
you can guarantee that part of the solution will be probiotics.

A recent study found that probiotics helped to treat
constipation by firstly improving the quality of the stool and
secondly increasing the frequency of stools being passed.

Aside from turning to a probiotic supplement from your local
health store or pharmacy a natural and easy way to help
replenish your intestinal flora is to start incorporating
probiotic-rich foods into your diet.

Probiotic rich foods naturally contain good live bacteria that
help to correct any existing imbalance in our gut.

Start with natural yogurt and then move on to other probiotic
rich food such as sauerkraut and kimchi.

Give it a month to see if the probiotics help to make a
difference in helping with your constipation.

8) Eat Foods Rich in Prebiotics

You may think we are repeating ourselves but look closely, we
said prebiotics, not probiotics.

Let us explain. As we know probiotic supplements and foods rich
in probiotics help to correct the balance of bacteria in our
digestive system by introducing more good bacteria.

Prebiotics, on the other hand, are quite different. In a
nutshell, prebiotics can be described as the perfect fiber rich
foods that help to feed the good bacteria in your gut. By
giving them adequate amounts of prebiotics you can also help to
maintain their presence in your gut.

According to a 2015 study in the Journal of Paediatrics,
increasing prebiotics in the diet helps o increase the
frequency of total bowel movements as well as making them
softer and therefore easier to pass.

To up your intake of prebiotics include foods like garlic,
bananas, and onions in your diet.

family.

We Spent 61 Hours To Create This Incredible Dipdye Wedding Dress

I had created the dress for a previous shoot in 2014 but sustainability in fashion runs deep in my philosophy and so it was the perfect canvas for my next project.

Usually, only natural fibers (silk, cotton, linen etc) can be dyed so the mixed fibers of this dress (silk dupion and polyester tulle) presented something of a challenge. In the end, I used a spray called ‘Oasis’ which is designed for use by florists on flowers! But I tested it first on some pieces of the same fabrics and the effect was perfect. I lined up 6 colors of spray to create the ombre look I wanted.

I put the dress on a stand in the garden, with the plastic sheeting to protect the dress, not the paving! I masked the lace trim with tape, took a very deep breath….. and began. I worked from the lace downwards layering up the colors in bands that faded one to the other. First yellow and orange then three shades of red graduating to purple and violet at the hem.

When I removed the masking from the lace I decided to add a light spray of yellow to ensure a smooth transition to the white above. Three coats, each with two hours to dry and a total of seven hours of spraying took its toll on my back and trigger finger but the labor of love was worth it. The dress was finished and ready for our photoshoot.

The team did not hold back and our shoot captured incredible moments of Autumn color, sunlight, and creativity, perfectly complimenting all my hard work on this beautiful dress. With thanks to all the other creatives on the photoshoot team!

Removing the masking from the lace it looked too ‘stark’

So a sprayed a little yellow onto the lace and just above to ‘fade’ the design properly
